Jonathan Smallwood earned his BA (1996) and Ph.D (2002) from The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
Over the last 15 years he has researched the process by which the brain self generates thoughts that do not arise from perception. He uses the tools of cognitive neuroscience. Everyday examples of this are the experience of mind-wandering and/or daydreaming.
