The Mind Wanders was founded in 2014 with a mission to make professional mental health support more accessible to all. After seeing friends and loved ones struggle to find affordable, high-quality therapy options, we were driven to create a new kind of counseling practice. One that provides exceptional care from qualified therapists, without limitations due to cost or location. What started as a small office has now grown into a nationwide network of clinicians dedicated to empowering people from all walks of life.
Our Mission
At The Mind Wanders, our goal is to make mental health care available to everyone, no matter their money situation. We believe therapy should be a place you feel comfortable and supported, not stressed about costs. That’s why we offer a range of services with flexible fees based on what you can afford – for individuals, couples and families. Everyone deserves to feel understood, accepted and guided towards living their best life.
Our Methods
We use a mix of different therapy styles to create a personalised experience just for you and your needs. Methods like cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness techniques, and emotionally-focused counselling are all tools we may use. But most importantly, we provide a relaxed, non-judgemental space for you to open up. Our therapists really listen to understand you as a whole person. We become a supportive partner walking beside you on your journey of self-discovery, emotional healing and positive growth.
Why Us?
From our affordable sliding-scale payment options to our therapists’ specialised expertise, we’re all about breaking down barriers to mental health support. As well as meeting in person, we offer secure video and phone sessions so you can get help whenever and wherever is easiest. Our free online resources, webinars and self-help guides are another way we empower our clients. But what really makes us special is our compassionate, respectful team who give each person truly personalised care.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, as the number of therapy sessions can vary quite a bit from person to person. The length of treatment depends on your specific circumstances, goals, and needs.
For some people, relatively short-term therapy of 6-12 sessions may be enough to learn coping strategies for a particular issue like grief, adjusting to a life change, or managing stress. For more complex mental health conditions or long-standing challenges, longer-term therapy is often beneficial.
During your initial consultation, your therapist will discuss an initial treatment plan and rough timeline. However, this is just an estimate. You and your therapist will regularly re-evaluate your progress and adjust the plan as needed. The priority is ensuring you get the level of support required to meet your goals.
What’s most important is committing to the process and putting in the work, both during and between sessions. Making therapy a priority and practicing what you learn are key to seeing meaningful results, no matter how many sessions it takes.
How Long Does It Take to See Results from Therapy?
Like the number of sessions needed, the timeline for seeing results can vary greatly. Some people experience positive shifts in their thoughts, emotions or behaviours within just a few sessions. For others, it takes longer to start noticing significant changes. A lot depends on your engagement in the therapeutic process.
Those who are consistent with attendance, open to self-exploration, and diligent with applying new skills outside sessions often observe benefits sooner. Sticking with it is key, as therapy works in layers over time.
On average, most people typically start feeling a bit “lighter” and experiencing some relief from their most difficult symptoms within 6-8 sessions. More profound transformations in core beliefs, life outlook and achieving major goals can take 12 sessions or longer.
The bottom line is that therapy is an active process of learning, self-discovery and growth. While it’s not an overnight fix, committing to the work yields lasting, life-changing results for the vast majority of people. Your therapist is there to guide and support you every step of the way.
